Neuro Recall FAQ: Plain Answers on the Label, Dose, Safety and Refunds

Neuro Recall is a capsule dietary supplement for adults, sold for memory, focus and energy. The serving is 2 capsules a day, and each 60-capsule bottle holds 30 servings.

Folate, vitamin B12, magnesium oxide and chromium picolinate, plus a 635 mg blend of cinnamon, ginkgo, bilberry, bacopa, green tea extract, berberine, L-theanine, alpha lipoic acid, alpha-GPC, and lutein with zeaxanthin. Each one has a row on the Neuro Recall ingredients page.

Not published. They share the 635 mg blend with eight other ingredients, and the label prints only the total.

The brand has not said. FDA labeling rules let a blend show its total weight with the ingredients listed by weight, without single amounts (FDA, Dietary Supplement Labeling Guide, Ch. IV).

Only when someone is low in it. Low B12 can cause memory problems that a doctor should test and treat, but B vitamins did little for thinking in people with normal levels (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12 (health professional)).

No upper limit has been set for B12 because its risk of harm is low (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12 (health professional)). The 10,000% Daily Value on the label is a large number, but it is not a known danger.

Its largest trial gave 240 mg a day to more than 3,000 older adults for about 6 years and found no less decline than placebo (JAMA 2009, Snitz et al., GEM cognitive decline trial).

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb. Small trials at 300 to 450 mg a day for 12 weeks or more found modest gains in attention speed and some recall tasks (J Ethnopharmacol 2014, Bacopa meta-analysis of RCTs).

Magnesium oxide, 250 mg per serving. Oxide is less completely absorbed than citrate or chloride and is one of the forms most likely to loosen stools (NIH ODS, Magnesium (health professional)).

Take 2 capsules daily with water, or as your health care provider directs. The label names no time of day, so pick one you will remember. Timing ideas are on the how to use Neuro Recall page.

We advise against it. The label says "or as needed", but a second serving would bring magnesium to 500 mg, above the 350 mg upper limit for magnesium from supplements.

The label does not say. A meal may help if your stomach is sensitive, since bacopa and magnesium oxide can both upset it.

The label gives no time, and no study compared times for this product. Many people find breakfast easiest to remember.

No timeline is printed, and the product has not been studied. Bacopa trials ran 12 weeks or more; L-theanine was tested over hours to weeks.

No study has tested Neuro Recall itself. Bacopa and L-theanine have small, early studies, ginkgo's largest trial was negative, and the amounts in the blend are unknown.

Perhaps not. Only L-theanine was studied over hours, for small effects on attention; the other ingredients were tested over months or years.

Direct evidence that supplements prevent dementia is lacking, and short-term B vitamin use has not improved thinking in older adults (NCCIH, 7 Things To Know About Supplements and Alzheimer's).

We found no good trial of a memory supplement for brain fog as such. Medicine side effects, thyroid problems and low B12 can all affect memory and are worth checking first.

When it disrupts daily life: losing things often, missing appointments, trouble finding words, or confusion about time or place (NIA, Forgetfulness: Knowing When to Ask for Help). Some causes are treatable.

Ask your doctor first. Ginkgo may raise bleeding risk with anticoagulants such as warfarin (NCCIH, Ginkgo: Usefulness and Safety).

Berberine can raise blood levels of cyclosporine and slow liver enzymes that clear many drugs (Memorial Sloan Kettering, Berberine (About Herbs)). With chromium, cinnamon and ALA it may also lower blood sugar, so ask first if you take diabetes medicine.

Rarely, yes. Green tea extract is a known cause of liver injury (LiverTox (NIDDK), Green Tea). Stop and call a doctor for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or upper belly pain.

Anyone under 18, and anyone pregnant or nursing, as the label says. People on blood thinners, diabetes medicine or other prescriptions should get a doctor's yes first.

No. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold (FDA, FDA 101: Dietary Supplements). The label carries the standard FDA statement.

It is not a treatment for dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Talk to their doctor first and bring the label, since people with dementia often take several medicines.
